Explore Nature and Adventures Around San Juan del Sur Nicaragua

Nicaragua has so much more to offer than just the awesome waves bro. There’s a ton of nature in all different forms to enjoy. From scenic viewpoints in San Juan and a zen swim at Laguna de Apoyo, to intense volcano hikes, kayaking, and extreme quad biking adventures,


Ometepe Island: Volcano Hikes & Kayaking

Ometepe Island is a short trip away and totally worth it. You can hike either Concepción, which is a tough one, or Maderas, which is a bit easier. There’s also kayaking in Lake Cocibolca, which is a great way to spend the day surrounded by nature. To get there, just drive to the ferry (about 30 minutes) and take an hour-long boat ride over—easy and beautiful!


Viewpoints in San Juan del Sur: Cristo Viewpoint & Lighthouse

If you’re in San Juan del Sur and want some great views without too much effort, check out the Cristo Viewpoint and the San Juan Lighthouse. Both are easy hikes that offer stunning panoramas of the bay and coastline.

  • The Cristo Viewpoint is a quick walk up and gives you an amazing view of the entire bay and town—perfect for a sunrise or sunset.

  • The Lighthouse is another short hike, offering beautiful views of the coastline. Also, bonus, there is cute bar at the viewpoint.


Quad Biking Through the Jungle

For something a little more adventurous, rent a quad and explore the trails around town. The jungle is full of surprises, and quad biking is a fun way to discover the many hidden waterfalls and ride through the rocky rivers. Its almost an extreme sport! Ask us for our recommendations.


Laguna de Apoyo: Swim & Kayak

If you need a break from the heat, head to Laguna de Apoyo, a crater lake near Masaya. It’s the perfect get away from the hussle of San Juan del sur, where you will be very tranquillo after a day there. Don’t let the local myths scare you off— youll have to come to find out what they are..


Volcano Hikes Around Nicaragua

If you want to challenge yourself a bit more, Nicaragua has a bunch of volcanoes to explore. Some popular ones include:

  • Cerro Negro: You can hike up and then ride down on a volcano board if you’re feeling extra adventurous.

  • Masaya Volcano: It's active, but super accessible.

  • Mombacho Volcano: Offers beautiful cloud forests and cooler temps.

  • San Cristobal: The tallest volcano in Nicaragua, for a real hike challenge.
